- [Course GLASSCD: Glassblowing Experience- Make a Candy Dish](https://continuing-ed-registration.ecu.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1030237): In this workshop you will make a unique candy dish from hot glass. Guided and assisted by the instructor, you will apply color to molten glass, blow a bubble in the glass, and then shape the glass into a sphere that is then “sucked” in to form a double-walled bowl that creates the candy dish. You will get to use special glass-making tools to create your design and heat your work in a 2100-degree furnace as your candy dish design takes shape. To prevent it from cracking, glass must be cooled slowly for at least 12 hours. Artwork made during a glass workshop must cool in an annealing oven and will be available for pick-up at a later date. Location & Format The GlasStation,  3 hour Workshop Workshops are limited to four participants. Minimum of three participants. - [Course GLASSPPW: Glassblowing Experience- Make a Paperweight](https://continuing-ed-registration.ecu.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1030270): In this workshop you will be guided and assisted through the process of making a unique, one-of-a-kind paperweight. Utilizing molten glass gathered (dipped) from the GlasStation’s furnace, you will get to apply color to your paperweight, blow a bubble through a pipe to form your piece, and use glass-making tools to pinch, pull, twist, twirl, and form molten glass into a design all your own. Guided by glass instructors, you will also get to heat your work in a 2100-degree furnace as your paperweight takes shape. To prevent it from cracking, glass must be cooled slowly for at least 12 hours. Artwork made during a glass workshop must cool in an annealing oven and will be available for pick-up at a later date. - [Course GLASSCUP: Glassblowing Experience- Make a Cup](https://continuing-ed-registration.ecu.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1030616): In this three-hour workshop you will be guided and assisted through the process of making your very own, handmade drinking glass. Molten glass will be gathered from a 2100°F furnace and participants will apply and melt in their choice of colors. You will then be guided through the process of inflating a bubble, shaping it into a cylinder, and ultimately finishing it by opening the top and finishing the shape of a nice cup. To finish your piece, it will be knocked off the pipe and the instructors will place the piece in a 900-degree oven to anneal. To prevent it from cracking, glass must be cooled slowly for at least 12 hours. Artwork made during a glass the workshop must cool in an annealing oven and will be available for pick-up later. - [Course GLASSWB: Glassblowing Experience- Make a Witch Ball, 17th Century Good Luck Charms](https://continuing-ed-registration.ecu.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1031062): Witch balls are a traditional glass novelty originating in 17th century England.  They were hung in windows to ward off any evils that may vex the occupants. In this workshop you will get the opportunity to make your own.  You’ll get to pick from a selection a glass colors and be guided by the instructor in applying and melting the color to the molten clear glass gathered out of our furnace.  Then, you will be assisted in forming the interior decoration that is unique to Witches Ball’s.  The instructor will then help achieve the final shape while you blow air in to inflate it into an ornament. To prevent it from cracking, glass must be cooled slowly for at least 12 hours. Pieces made during a glass class must cool in an annealing oven and will be available for pick-up at a later date. - [Course NCCEDLEGAL: Legal Framework for Economic Developers in North Carolina](https://continuing-ed-registration.ecu.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1056821): Successful economic developers need more than instinct, they must understand the legal, regulatory, and transactional framework that lets them deliver projects that are practical, lawful, and fundable. This module will also explore the value of data and measurements that can be used to understand market changes that affect industry and businesses in a community. The Coastal Studies Institute will once again offer Evening in the Estuary, an on-the-water educational experience for families. Evening in the Estuary programs include a boat ride through the Croatan Sound to a marsh island to wade the shallow waters, survey the sandy shores, and explore the grassy uplands. Participants will learn about estuarine ecology, investigate plant and animal adaptations, seine for critters, and more. Evening in the Estuary programs will be offered from 4-6 PM. - [Course GLASSBOWL-Glass Bowl: Glassblowing Experience- Make a Floppy Bowl](https://continuing-ed-registration.ecu.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1178176): The floppy bowl, also called wavy, fluted, and handkerchief bowls, is a fun form that is long established in the history of blown glass.  Still popular in the present day, Roman examples exist that date to at least the 3rd century CE. In this three-hour workshop, you will get the chance to create your own.  Molten glass will be gathered from a 2100°F furnace and participants will get to apply and melt in their choice of glass colors chunks (called 'frits').  You will then be guided and assisted by the instructor through the process of inflating a bubble, shaping it, and ultimately opening and spinning it to create the distinctive 'floppy' shape. To finish your piece, it will be knocked off the pipe and the instructors will place the piece in a 900-degree oven to anneal. To prevent it from cracking, glass must be cooled slowly for at least 12 hours. Artwork made during a glass class must cool in an annealing oven and will be available for pick-up at a later date. The 21 st Century Leadership program is designed to equip current and aspiring leaders with the understanding, skills, and tools needed to lead strategically. You will learn to build a team or organization that is goal focused and vision driven, while creating an environment for people to thrive, grow, and contribute. Organized as a seven-course series, the High Impact Leader micro-credentialing program focuses on the development of critical capabilities needed to grow you impact as a leader. Upon completion of the workshop series, participants will engage in a series of coaching session designed to create a leadership development plan specific to their challenges and opportunities. Courses can be taken individually or as a series leading to credentialing as a 21st Century Leader through the East Carolina University College of Business and the ECU Office of Continuing Education. The Workshop format places significant emphasis on the participant’s strategic application of course material to their own leadership responsibilities, including the development of specific action plans for implementation. Cost/Registration Fee The cost of the credentialing series is $3,800 ($475/course) and includes program materials and meals.
- [Certificate NCCED: North Carolina Certified Economic Developer (NCCED) Program](https://continuing-ed-registration.ecu.edu/public/category/courseCategoryCertificateProfile.do?method=load&certificateId=1057041): ABOUT THE ACADEMY The ECU Economic Development Academy serves seasoned economic developers and those new to the field by providing, relevant and affordable continuing education opportunities as well as an accessible credentialing program. The Academy is comprised of the North Carolina Certified Economic Developer Program and the Honors Seminar in Economic Development.  Offered in partnership with the North Carolina Economic Development Association, the certification program provides practical knowledge concerning the practice of economic development in North Carolina to economic development personnel, elected officials, business leaders and others interested in the field. Participants who wish to earn their certification must complete seven (7) core courses and a capstone project for a total of 84 contact hours. While successfully completing the course of study will lead to the North Carolina Certified Economic Developer designation, courses may be taken as desired without formal matriculation in the certification program. PROGRAM COSTS and REQUIREMENTS The 6 core courses and the Capstone course are $395 per course.  Please contact UNC School of Government for the IEDC Basic Course cost, estimated cost $750. Please remember to budget for travel expenses, which are not included in course cost, as needed for participation. One must be a member of the North Carolina Economic Developer Association to become certified. We recommend including the NCEDA Membership and Annual Conference in your budget. The certification announcement and recognition is shared at the annual event in June. You may start the course work at any time: Each course is offered once per year. All courses must be completed before you may take the Capstone Project, which is offered annually. Capstone Project applications are accepted in December and the course begins in January.
