Course Description

Local governments play a vital role in disaster preparedness and community resilience. This workshop is tailored for county and municipal executives, especially those in eastern North Carolina and other high-risk areas, who need a deeper understanding of how insurance markets function and how policies respond to catastrophic events.
Participants will gain essential risk management knowledge to support stronger mitigation planning and informed decision-making.

Learning Objectives

  • Communicate how the roles of state and federal insurance regulation impact the pricing and availability of coverages, including for natural disasters, terrorism, and crop losses, to leaders within your organization so that they are prepared to discuss your community's risk preparedness with citizens and other stakeholders.
  • Apply risk identification methods to your organization in order to systematically identify risk exposures facing the organization.
  • Evaluate the design of an insurance program based on tradeoffs in deductible/retention and policy coverages, ensuring adequate protection for essential exposures.
