Course Description

Successful economic developers need more than instinct, they must understand the legal, regulatory, and transactional framework that lets them deliver projects that are practical, lawful, and fundable. This module provides that foundation by covering the core domains practitioners use every day: available economic incentives; corporate and commercial fundamentals; relocation processes; real estate acquisition and development; financing structures; environmental compliance and permitting; tax issues; joint-venture and incentive negotiation; intellectual property where it matters to site selection and companies; labor and employment considerations; and local/state land-use controls such as zoning, licensing and other regulatory approvals (including practical walkthroughs of incentive, financing and relocation package negotiation and how state programs such as One North Carolina Fund and Job Development Investment Fund are applied). This module delivers deeper, place based training, for the practical legal and transactional toolkit economic developers need.
