Course Description

In the economic development profession, the ability to attract new industries, companies, and businesses including the retention and job growth among existing companies has always been an essential fundamental of success. This module will examine best practices for successful attraction and recruitment of new companies, and businesses. Attraction programs should be considered as part of a system of parts in Economic Development and the module will explore efforts by communities to create techniques and programs used by communities to attract companies and outside resources and investments that include but are not limited to: the community environment, amenities, techniques for community development, workforce solutions, ways to improve infrastructure, inclusivity, industry and business products, housing, child care, along with possible incentives and funding. The module will explore linkages with business retention and expansion efforts and may involve travel to a North Carolina community exhibiting best practice in the areas of community development as a hands-on case study that demonstrates module teachings relevant to the North Carolina practitioner.
