The Neon Lights: A Study of Broadway Musicals

Broadway theater is an important part of American culture, which evolved into off Broadway and movie musicals. We will explore the history of the evolution of the genre and watch excerpts from many well loved productions. Students will have the opportunity to request favorite ballads and dance numbers.

The Stories of Beloved Hymns and Spirituals

Saint Augustine said he who sings prays twice. The words of our hymns are prayers, and when we sing them, we add to then a further dimension of honor and praise. We will look at the history of Spirituals and the stories behind favorite religious songs. Students will have the opportunity to suggest hymns and can sing along if the spirit moves them.
