COE106 - The Struggle is REAL: Strategies to Support Students' Reading Difficulties
Course Description
This module is designed for general classroom teachers and specialist teachers (e.g., special educators, reading specialists, ESL/ELL teachers) who work with students in Grades 1-8 and have responsibility for providing some/all of those students’ literacy instruction. Explore effective literacy assessment and instruction practices to support students having difficulty taking on literacy learning. Learn about the role of comprehensive general classroom literacy instruction within a Response to Intervention model, build a toolkit of literacy assessments to identify student strengths and areas of need, and use assessment information to plan, implement, and reflect on targeted instruction. Access to a Gr. 1-8 student (your student, a relative, a neighbor, etc.)—who is not yet reading and writing on a typical trajectory—is needed for two practice assessment and intervention activities.
